Queen Chioma Nworgu speaks at the House of Parliament

Dear World,

I am behind in blogging once again so I am going to update you on what I have been up to over the past couple of months, in three separate blogs.

I had an exquisite opportunity in March 2012 to speak at the House of Parliament and I took the opportunity with both hands. I was asked to give a impacting presentation on the hot topic of youths and how the Nigerian Government is helping the youths of Nigeria through scholarships. I spoke as a Representative (Marketing Director) of Focus Learning Support Ltd which is a company set up in 2003 by my mother Dr Elizabeth Achinewhu-Nworgu.

I was surrounded by Lords, MPs, Steven Sodje CEO of Sodje Sports Foundation, Focus Learning Support team, Teachers, Lecturers, Doctors, Professors, many government officials and I must admit that I was quite nervous when it was my time to give a presentation. However when I got onto the mic I was amazed by the impacting words that came out of my mouth.

I created a powerpoint presentation on the topic of Academic Success, Talent and Creativity. I gave key points and arguments on the topic of ‘Multiple Intelligence

s’ which is a topic discussed by Howard Gardener. We all have different learning styles, abilities and behaviour’s for example some people prefer to learn through practical experiences i.e. touch and feel, hands on activities, having a go at something rather than reading about something. Some people are audio learners i.e. audio CD’s, Headset, Music, Audio books, listening to recorded Lectures etc. Some much rather prefer to learn through what they see i.e. vision boards, white boards, books, visual images and so on.

Read this quote below to grasp more of Gardeners concept on Multiple Intelligencies.

“Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence Theory was first published in Howard Gardner’s book, Frames Of Mind (1983), and quickly became established as a classical model by which to understand and teach many aspects of human intelligence, learning style, personality and behaviour – in education and industry. Howard Gardner initially developed his ideas and theory on multiple intelligences as a contribution to psychology, however Gardner’s theory was soon embraced by education, teaching and training communities, for whom the appeal was immediate and irresistible – a sure sign that Gardner had created a classic reference work and learning model”. During my presentation at the House of Parliament I also discussed the need for the government to encourage youths that to achieve their dreams by increase funding for entrepreneurial youths, most schemes stop at the age 25, however there are young entrepreneurs that are impacting youths that are far above the age of 25 and not receiving any help or funding, this needs to change.

The next point that I raised in the presentation is the need for parents to encourage their children to study what they enjoy rather than what they think is good for them. Some parents tend to force their children into studying degree courses such as Law and Medicine.
Well not everyone is supposed to be a Lawyer or a Doctor so I impressed the need for parents to give their children the liberty to follow their own academic and career goals.

My final point was based on talents and creativity – I truly believe that the reason why I have had so many opportunities in life is because I am so well-rounded, multi-talented despite the fact that I am also well educated with a Masters degree and a BA hons degree. Although I gained good qualifications at University that didn’t stop me from being a Singer, TV Presenter, Beauty Queen and following my other creative passion’s. I truly believe that when youths develop and use their creative talents along side their education, business or career that it can really increase their success and confidence levels.

I was so blessed to have met some significant officials at the House of Parliament and I truly look forward to more seminars and events of this nature.

More blogs coming shortly.

Love from Queen xxxx
